Fo Guang Shan (FGS) is an international Buddhist organization founded in 1967 in Taiwan by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. It practices Humanistic Buddhism, which aims to make Buddhism relevant in the world and in people’s lives and hearts. Fo Guang Shan promotes interfaith dialogue to build mutual understanding and respect between diverse religious groups. In the Philippines, FGS primarily works with education of (esp. underprivileged) children and youth with a goal to foster country development and contribute to youth empowerment.

Storybook Project is designed to promote ethics and values among Filipino youth. During the project, the team will select local and Chinese fables, incorporate them into a book together with digitized illustrations made by children, and cooperate with Philippine Education Department to introduce the book as an educational material for public schools.

Odisha Govt to open advanced centre for Buddhist studies

All out efforts will be made for making the advanced centre for Buddhist Studies operational with effect from January 1st, 2013. In this connection a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Tourism & Culture Minister Mahaswar Mohanty. Minister Mohanty told that an advanced centre for Buddhist studies will be opened at Langudi in Jajpur District.

The courses like certificate courses, Diploma Courses, Post Graduate & research courses will be opened in the centre in phases. The courses will be mainly self financing at its initial stage. Initiating the discussion A.K. Tripathy the Principal Secretary to Government Tourism and Culture Department pointed out the importance of opening of an advance centre for Buddhist studies with a view to attract the students inside & outside the country.

Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty President Mahabodhi Society Odisha, Prof. A.K. Mishra Vice-Chanceller Utkal Culture University, Mallika Mitra Director INTACH Culture and S.K. Pattnaik Secretary OIMSEAS were present in the meeting.
