Buddhist Chant from China (1928)

“Excavated Shellac” is an excellent site devoted to presenting old records — 78s — with a strong interest in world music. (“A website dedicated to 78rpm recordings of folkloric and vernacular music from around the world.”) Each record is presented with thorough, but not overwhelming, research on its production and context. In this entry from last July, we hear a recording from 1928, “that features chanting from a Buddhist sutra – specifically from the Vimalakirti Sutra.”
