London-based artist Leonardo Ulian fashions geometric tech-mandalas out of the electrical components he removes from computers and radios. Ulian patterns his designs after the symmetry and symbolism found in Hindu and Buddhist mandalas. The combination of defunct technology with eastern spiritualism speaks to society’s planned obsolescence and devotion to technology. “We live in a society that worships electronic technology,” he states, “both for necessity but also because it makes us feel better, not unlike its own new form of fashionable spirituality.” Take a moment to study the patterns laid out in Ulians patterns, and for more examples of his work visit Leonardo’s personal site here.
